Competition time with Philips AVENT!

My very first giveaway 🙂

When Liam was born, I was slightly fanatical in my need to be Über-mom-extrodinaire. This extended to my culinary skills. I used to whip up pots of fresh homemade food: pressed, pureed and pukey looking. I would label, bottle and freeze and I only gave him “food in a jar” when I was desperate or not at home. Luckily he was a good eater so it worked well – I was proud of my cooking and he seemed to like the gloop I offered. Then he got older and Hannah came along and I came to appreciate the wonder that is finger food. Liam started feeding himself from a young age simply because I was not always available to assist him while bouncing the baby on my knee. I found that a few bits and bobs on a cute little plate worked best for him. Hannah, too, caught onto this method of eating early while watching her brother. They soon got used to plastic cutlery for the messier food options like bolognaise and porridge. So I’ve always had lots of colourful plastic crockery and cutlery in my kitchen cupboards. And I guess that is why I am so excited about this competition! We STILL love pretty crockery and cutlery 🙂

The nice people over at Philips AVENT wanted to spoil my readers with a chance to win one of five Toddler Mealtime Sets, each valued at R499, right here on my blog. Check it out:

I love the cute design and functionality of the set. I love how the plate is divided into sections; Liam and I do not like our different food groups to touch on the plate! These separators keep your rice away from your carrots and maybe the third spot for a piece of cheese? I know our plates have seen some weird food combos! So to enter, all you need to do is leave a comment with some of the food combos your kid (or kids you know, or combos you, yourself) enjoys. Your comment will not make you the winner, so moms like me with somewhat unhealthy combos needn’t stress! The draw will be random, but I’d still like to hear about what you guys like to eat! Extra draw if you share to Twitter (@robynrichen) and Facebook! Competition closes at 3pm on Wednesday 10 April and five winners will be randomly selected on the same day. Good luck!

  1. This is exciting,…so baby had her first taste of food yesterday, some banana purity..we were not sure if she was enjoying it or if it was super weird in her mouth but we clapped for every spoon haha!!

  2. My first son, Cameron, like Liam, had all the time and attention. Also the specially prepared and frozen baby foods. He was really not a fussy eater and enjoyed everything…. Especially chocolate!

  3. I know some kids who eat tomatoe sauce with everything! Tom sauce and rice, Tom sauce and bread! Tom sauce with everything!!

  4. My younger son, Shayne, enjoyed avocado pear from a really young age. He loves it even till now. He mashes it up himself, and adds salt, pepper and vinegar! It’s his favourite. He’ll eat everything else on his plate and leave it for last!

  5. My daughter Nikita, didn’t really have a problem with eating, she stayed with my Aunty so ate whatever they were eating. Noah my son on the other hand, grew up with the helper so she cooked him pumpkin and mash and he is a fussy eater. As for tomato sauce my kids love it even eat it alone.

  6. I have to be the luckiest mum in the world!!! My girls Dineo aged 3 and Zahra 1years love to eat and they eat everything!! Dineo loves vegetables and my baby Zahra loves her carbs! Potatoe chips n bread!! They love to feed themselves and can make a good ol merry mess at times as Zahra thinks she’s Dineo age n refuses any help from mum and big sister.

  7. Lesley being the first grandchild my mom made all her food fresh and lucky for us she loved everything from sweet potatoe to brocoli. Hope the new baby will be a good eater.

  8. I started Sam at 6months on pureed veggies, then fruit then cereal and I went all out cooking him all sorts of stuff made SO EASY becuase I bought the Phillips Avent Steamer/Blender all-in-one. Now he eats with hubby and i. Picky eaters still like to eat with good (cute) cutlery, lol

  9. they love the spaghetti through the vienna boiled with lots of barbecue, mayo and aromat… Little to much for me lol
little man had vegemite AND honey for
lunch. He loved it! Not so sure I would.

  11. I don’t have any kids, but my hubby’s niece is at the very fashion and colour conscious age of 3. Her thing at the moment is colour coordinated everything from plates, forks, cups/bottles to her panties and outfits and bed sheets (phew). One day it’s purple, next day it’s “lellow” 😆

  12. Cool comp! We have had some strange combo’s but for the life of me I can’t remember any of them. One weird eating thing though, is that my eldest (almost 4) eats white button mushrooms like they are apples – uncooked and everything.

  13. I wish I could say Ethan’s a fussy eater – fact is, boy child is just not happy eating with mama in general and at the moment, he seems to be teething so no eating is going down in our house at all! I must admit though, he does take a keen interest when the food is presented on nicer crockery…more of an interest in the actual crockery than the food 😉 so would love to be serving up a storm in this cute little set!

  14. Josh loves pizza and ice cream!! oh so healthy i know.. NOT! As long as he is eating, i am happy!! (of course he doesn’t get to eat this every day, just 2 of his favourite “meals”)

  15. My baby likes stews & fish but my eldest doesn’t, he prefers food like hot chips, chicken nuggets & pizza, luckily they both Loves veggies. One of our combos include fish, hot chips & carrots:)

  17. Erin-believe it or not-loves chops & pasta! She does the cutest lil dance when we have this for dinner! Kinda reminds me of me!

  18. Kamva does not want any of her food to touch. I once made a mistake to mix her mince with spaghetti together and she said to me’mama I don’t eat dirty food’ 🙂 oh and she loves tomato sauce…a lot

  19. @Marissa..tomatoe sauce with everything…thats my kid…tomatoe sauce, butter and rice, one of his favourites…I aint complaining though, least he is eating something and besides he loves peas…so that takes first prize in my book cos his mummy never liked peas and dad doesnt eat veggies at all!

  20. We have yet to try any weird combinations with Ty (almost 12 months) due to his hilarious facial expressions with even ‘normal’ combo’s! Hubby has a few crazy meals that he loves though, things like scrambled eggs and apricot jam, avo ham and mayo on toast, avo and syrup, and his favorite: Dagwoods with ham, avo, egg, syrup, marmite, cheese and apricot jam (Euwww!)

    Hehe! *holding thumbs*

  21. Our little boy likes ice-cream, something he discovered recently, so these days he wants ice-cream with everything, if not he wants cocopops.
